When my children were teenagers we moved to Vermont to start a new life. I soon discovered that buying a pool table or billiards table was one of the best investments. I got a table on sale, at a discount, and soon we had our own wall cue rack, wooden barstools, and enjoyed many hours of family fun. I considered one of the rentals, but chose to buy.
During the winter and on rainy days we used this table a lot. I wanted to get a slate table, but instead chose a synthetic one. We didn't need any installers, because my oldest was so excited to have his friends over that he assembled it and planned a big tournament.
We didn't need any instruction, other than the good advice of some locals who knew their game. We had our own little parlor and they tried to turn it into a pub, but they were only in high school!
The table also made a great poker table. The barstools came in very handy for this, as did the custom lighting in the post and beam family room. It was an inexpensive way to keep everyone at home and have some good fun.
We also had a dartboard nearby. Darts is a great game, you just have to watch out for passersby and windows. We thought about electronic darts, but preferred the old fashioned game.
The pool table accessories soon had their own cabinet because people kept leaving them lay all over the place. Teens don't always think about things like that, so somebody had to make a wall rack for the cues. We also had a cabinet for the darts and poker things.
There are many other ways to create you own special family place. Table tennis is a great way to get everyone involved, plus you can get a conversion kit for the pool table to turn it into a table tennis table.
If you have some game tables and chairs you can also play Shockplay tennis on the computer. Or you can play one of the many fun board games.
When you can't be outside playing volleyball on the beach or in the swimming pool, you can always play pool inside. Or if badminton, horseshoes are your game but it is too muddy outside, just come into your special place and enjoy your Harley Davidson pinball machine or other arcade machine, right at home!
