Family vacations can be more affordable by using some creative thinking. Most of the time people think far away and exotic, but maybe the best time with the kids can be closer to home. In fact, many memories can be made right at home, in your yard!
You can make your backyard one of those family fun places that will be talked about many years from now. Think about some of your favorite times with your family growing up. Most likely, many will be very simple times spent with family and friends.
You don't really need to find a cheap Caribbean cruise or a resort to have a great time, though those can be awesome as well. Besides, some people just don't have the cash to spend on a cruise or resort.
Yet nearly anyone can afford a horseshoe court, a badminton set or a volleyball set. For a lot less money than you might expect, discounts can be found on good quality equipment. Good sporting goods stores are always having sales on what might be the best family tent, game tables and chairs, Alan Francis horseshoes or the best badminton raquet.
Volleyball equipment does not cost much, you can get a complete outdoor system for under $50. You most likely will want to invest a bit more, if you intend to play often or have bigger kids involved. Depending on where you live, you can set up beach volleyball sets, or play in the swimming pool, which is a real treat!
A backyard can usually do a lot more than people imagine. With some creativity you can have a horseshoe pit, a volleyball court and still play croquet and bocce ball! You can also find many parks that are accommodating for setting up a court for your amusement.
If you choose to travel, consider staying close to home. Many of our favorite times were spent in Vermont, which was just a few hours away. We had our own special spot and returned for years. We still talk about those times. In fact, now we live in Vermont!
There are ski, camping, hiking and fishing vacations to be enjoyed as well. Boating, swimming, kayaking are all great ways to enjoy a vacation and they do not cost much. If you combine birthdays, graduations or other special events with your vacation you can create even more memories.
Once you discover a vacation spot you love, keep returning and you will discover much more than you imagined in the beginning. Small getaway trips, parades, children's activities, July 4 events, and special local people all will become part of your special memories.
